1. 解詞釋義

Foot the bill的字面意思是“踩着賬單，趕快開溜”，比喻爲“結賬，付賬，買單”的意思。

早在15世紀，人們開始用foot the bill表示把所有的賬目加起來後算出總金額，然後寫在賬單的底部（foot of bill or account），foot相當於button，在這時候跟消費者無關。但是到了19世紀，則與消費者有關了，表示“付賬，買單”的意思，一直沿用至今。
