一、 詞海拾貝

on the ball

exp. Attentive, knowledgeable, and quick to take action. (注意力強的且知識淵博的,可以迅速採取行動,機靈)

e.g. I'm so glad that my assistant is always on the ball because I'm too scatterbrained to manage my schedule on my own.

我很高興我的助手總是很機靈,因爲我太粗心大意,無法自己管理我的日程安排。

e.g. I can't believe Molly got that report done so quickly—she's really on the ball.

1. consistent:(指人﹑ 人的行爲﹑ 觀點等)前後一致的

e.g. You're not very consistent: first you condemn me, then you praise me.

e.g. Your conduct is not consistent with what you say.

你的行爲和你所說的不一致。

2. keep one’s eyes on the ball:集中注意力

e.g. She checked her racing thoughts, keep his eyes on the ball and listen to the teacher.

她還是剋制自己如潮的思緒,集中注意力上課。

e.g. Don' t put me off when I' m trying to keep my eyes on the ball.

我正要集中注意力,別打攪我。

3. aim at:向……努力,向……力爭

e.g. She's aiming a a scholarship.

她爭取獲得獎學。

e.g. The news had apparently been aimed at stealing the thunder from his visit.

這篇新聞顯然是在對他的訪問作先聲奪人的報道。

4. be unconfident of someone:對……沒有信心

e.g. Patrick was unconfident of his ability to get work for himself.

派屈克沒有自信自己有能力爲自己找到工作。

e.g. Peter is unconfident of winning the post as the assistant to the managing director.

彼得對他能獲得總經理助理的職位沒有信心。

5. sooner or later:遲早

e.g. Sure enough, she'll let you down sooner or later.

無疑,她早早晚晚會拋棄你的。

e.g. He will sooner or later be rewarded for his wicked conduct.

6. keep something in mind:記住

e.g. You have to keep in mind that your friends is coming at 2 o’clock this afternoon.

你要記住你的朋友在今天下午2點鐘到。

e.g. It is not easy to keep in mind what you have told me.

記住你告訴我的話並不容易。

7. make it:成功,達到預定目標,做到

e.g. Tell him I want to see him tonight,at my house if he can make it.

e.g. He wants to make it as a writer.

他想作爲作家而一舉成名。
